The habit of goal setting is a necessary personality attribute for a person to live more mindful and live life with purpose. When an individual sets effective goals, he or she will naturally achieve more in life. Goals provide focus, enhance productivity, bolster self-esteem, and increase commitment. Having a clear vision of the future, devising a strategy to achieve a set of goals, and creating a schedule for the completion of each task moves a person in the direction of successfully achieving his or her dreams.
However, in order to achieve greatness, a person must take one more key step. In order to live his or her life’s vision, a person must take action. Setting goals without effective action is merely day dreaming. Goals should be S.M.A.R.T. – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. With practice, a person will find that he or she is able to achieve more when goals are met with conscious action.
The longer a person postpones action to achieve his or her goals, the more difficult and challenging it becomes to start and build momentum. Circumstances in life will never be ideal, to set out on a path of self-discovering and strive towards living life with purpose and achieving a set dream. The hard truth is it will never get any easier to live mindfully and move forward.
The only answer is to take a deep breath, accept the truth that reaching a set of goals is hard for every person no matter the circumstance, make a commitment, and take action. Just because life is hard and there are obstacles along the road does not mean you cannot start the journey towards greatness. The beginning is always the hardest, and with time, a person will naturally become stronger and develop the skills to achieve a set goal. This only happens when we begin to take action and consistently work towards a vision of our ideal future life.
It is normal for a person to wait for a sign from the universe to indicate that it is okay to move forward. More often than not, a person procrastinates, because he or she sees a set of obstacles that have been placed along the route, and he or she believes with time these obstacles will disappear. As a result, a person usually delays until he or she feels more confident to overcome a series of challenges. This is an illusion. Taking action is the only way to build confidence and remove the obstacles set out along the path.
Every day that goes by a person is either moving towards achieving his or her dreams or moving away from realizing his or her goals. By taking action on a set of goals, a person is naturally moving towards living life on purpose and achieving his or her life vision. However, by doing nothing, a person will go in the opposite direction. Change requires taking personal responsibility. Achieving your goals or succeeding in any field of endeavor requires action. Any one person can create a list of goals, write out a vision statement, and have a set of dreams, but it takes a special effort to follow through with action, in order to bring a goal into reality. May all beings be happy and free and may all out thoughts words and actions contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
